The email stunned and cut me to the heart… The mother of one of the sweet babies I photographed this past February, writing to let me know that their 4 month old had passed away suddenly in July. We had a family session already scheduled for September, and she wanted to know if we could go ahead with it, including photos of their baby boy in some way. I was so grateful I had had the opportunity to capture those fleeting newborn days for them. What a gift photographs are for the sake of remembering! We made our plans, and dialogued about location and details… The morning of our shoot was a simply perfect autumn sunshiney day. All morning, my thoughts and prayers were with this sweet family as they got ready… I’m sure constantly being reminded of the little one they wished was a part of the preparations. We spent a delightful morning together, and as I drove away, I couldn’t help but marvel at the obvious joy and peace present, in the midst of such intense sadness. Joy simply radiates from this beautiful mama’s face. This couple trusts God so tenaciously, even in the midst of their pain. I can think of no better tribute and legacy for their boys than this. Isaac & Christen, thank you for your example and for allowing me the honor of photographing your sweet family.
