I know that life with little people is an endless blur of perpetual care and sleepless nights. It’s hard to savor the momentary when you are just trying to survive the day. My passion is to give your family the gift of freezing a beautiful moment in time, that years from now, you’ll have a snapshot to cherish and remember. As a mother of six, I bring a level of experience and calm. These are the days, or so the saying goes… I want you to be able to hold onto them for always.

I’m expecting! When should we book our maternity/newborn session?

Congratulations! Typically, I recommend scheduling maternity sessions around the 7/8 month mark, when you have a visible bump and aren’t too uncomfortable. Already past that point? No worries! We will get you on the calendar asap. Typically, newborn sessions are scheduled within the first two weeks while your baby is still pretty sleepy. We’ll confirm a specific date for our session, once your little one has made their appearance. Baby already here? I’m happy to schedule sessions for babies older than two weeks (as my schedule allows), but in my experience they do tend to be less sleepy at that point. In these cases, our session will focus more on the family together rather than baby posed alone.
Who will be included in our session?

Our session will feature baby, but also include pictures with dad, mom, sibling(s) and the family together. I think there is nothing quite like the sheer joy of welcoming a new little person to the world and I want to make sure we include everyone in that celebration.

Sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. I’m all too familiar with the overwhelming production that is getting out of the house with little ones, so I bring everything to you. As long as you have a good size window with decent light, I will be good to go.

But our home is too dark/small/plain...
I’ve photographed families in tiny apartments and sprawling estates and I’ve found the same thing to be true : the beauty of shooting at home isn’t so much about your home itself, but rather the love of the people inside it. Still not convinced? We’ll work through a pre-session questionnaire that may help us come up with another meaningful location for your family.
What should we wear for our session?

I recommend babies wear something simple and timeless. A plain white onesie, one piece outfit or sleeper is ideal. We’ll likely do some shots clothed, swaddled and down to the diaper. For the rest of the family, I recommend avoiding clothing with logos or distracting patterns, and black or bright colors (such as red or fuschia) which may leave a color cast. Go with light colors and patterns, and clothing that is comfortable to move around in. Always think coordinating, not matching.
Do you bring/use props for newborns?

The longer I photograph babies, the more I’m drawn to simple, undistracted work. I’ll bring a few plain wraps and blankets to swaddle, as well as an assortment of simple clothing items, white diapers and headbands which we may or may not use. I enjoy photographing the unique personality of your baby just as they are. I’m an advocate for natural posing and work gently to achieve that with your baby’s cooperation. I want you to be able to remember all those adorable baby yawns, sneezes, stretches and facial expressions, as well as their peaceful sleepy face.
What if my baby cries/won’t sleep/needs to eat?

I’ve photographed hundreds of babies, and believe me, I think I’ve seen it all. Your job is simply to relax and leave the shooshing and rocking and snuggling to me for the time we’re together. You are my priority for the day. We’ll take breaks as needed for diaper changes, feedings, etc…
How much should we expect to spend? How do you process payment?

Your session begins with a $300 session reservation fee. You will receive an invoice to pay these fees online via credit card. This fee is for session time only and does not include any prints or images. After viewing your gallery slideshow post session, you’ll choose from a few packages which include high-res digital images from our session, along with 4×6 prints, and the option for a store gift credit, coffee table book or archival quality album. Packages start at $600. Your balance will be due at the time of package selection. A la carte items such as enlargements, gallery canvas, and brag books are also available.
Who is Penny Gray?

Penny Gray is tribute to my littlest girl who was a most unexpected surprise in a very difficult season of my life. She was the sunshine when my skies were gray, and her name is a constant reminder that we never know what good may come through storms. My circumstances have happily changed for the better now. I’m married to my best friend who loves and supports me unconditionally, we have a crew of 6 who make life wonderfully rich (and loud), and I have a job that I simply adore. We are living our happily ever after, and I couldn’t love the story more.
