October is here, holiday sessions start Saturday and as I was prepping for this year I realized it’s been a while since I put together a what do we wear post…
Here’s a few things I’ve found helpful when thinking through clothing for your session :
- think complementary colors. moss and mauve. charcoal and cream. gray and gold. start with a neutral and pick two accent colors. strive for variety within your color palette. mom has a cream top… dress baby in a different color so he/she won’t blend into mom when held. if dad’s wearing khakis, dress your boy in jeans or black pants. mix it up within your theme.
- accessorize. once you have your palette you can accessorize – headbands, bow ties, suspenders, knee socks or moccasins for a pop of additional color. if it’s going to be chilly out, consider bringing hats or scarves to don for a few shots.
- be comfortable, be you. no matter how put together your wardrobe looks, if someone is uncomfortable, it will not make for good images. trust me. if baby hates tights – scrap them and dress her in leggings. itchy sweater for your toddler, just go with the button up. the best images are always those where everyone is simply enjoying being together. i know picture taking with little people can be a stressful experience, and my goal is for as much happiness as possible. grass stains will happen, noses will run, babies will spit up. we’ll roll with it. our session is all about the love you have for each other. we’ll work together to capture you at your best along the way.
I took some time to pull together a few inspiration boards from various online retailers. You can find links to purchase listed beneath each board. Hope it aids you in your planning! Enjoy!
